SFF Services Limited today paid tribute

SFF Services Limited today paid tribute to a dedicated champion of the industry, Ross Dougal, who has died at the age of 73.

Ross held all the senior non-executive offices within the organisation between 2011 and this year, underlining his absolute commitment to the SFF and its objectives, over and above his many years of service with Denholm Fishselling.

He started by representing the Fish Salesmen’s Association Limited (now Fishing Vessel Agents and Owners Association Limited) on the SFF Executive Committee 2007, succeeding James Brown as chairman of Fish Salesmen’s Association Limited in 2011.

He became SFF Vice-President in 2011, and then served as President from 2014-2016. He also served as Chairman of the Scottish Fishermen’s Trust in 2016, Chairman of SFF Services Limited from 2016-2025 and Chairman of its subsidiary company Marine Environmental Solutions Limited (MES) from 2019-2025. Ross also served as a Trustee of the Scottish Fisheries Museum and as a Vice-Patron of The Fishermen’s Mission.

Elspeth Macdonald, SFF chief executive, said: “Ross was utterly dedicated to the fishing industry in Scotland. We extend our condolences to his family at this difficult time.”

Steven Alexander, managing director of SFF Services Limited, added: “As well as total commitment, Ross brought good humour to his work despite a period of ill health. He will be sorely missed.”
